This course explores American History from the earliest exploration of the continent. It was an area that Europeans did not know existed and exploited. We will talk about the ideas that transformed the Anglo Colonies from dependant on England to an industrial and agriculturally powerful country. We will also look at the many lives of ordinary and extraordinary lives who made the United States what it is. We will not look at just the good but also the bad and the very ugly. We will attempt to create a conversation with history. Your opinions are not only welcomed but so are your questions. We will look at immigration, immigrant groups, growth of the cities. We will also look at military history and maritime (naval) history. We will also look at the role of technology and how technology affects growth.

We will talk about issues that concern you in the area of history and we will look at it from both bottom up and top down.
